SHCOOK PRIVACY POLICY

Effective date: September 1, 2016.

This Privacy Policy explains how we treat your personal information. We take the privacy of your personal information very seriously. If you have questions or comments about how we care for your personal information, don't hesitate to contact us via our 'Contact' page or by email (contact@shcook.org).

This Privacy Policy may be updated at any time. When this Privacy Policy is updated, we will replace this document with the updated version on the SHCOOK website. Please periodically check this page for updates by reading the 'Effective date' at the top.

In this document, the term "personally identifiable information" means identifiable information, about an individual who uses or visits the shcook.org website, that is collected online and maintained by the owner of the website (SHCOOK LLC).

HOW WE COLLECT PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION

When you access our website, we collect the following categories of information:

  1. When you Join/Create an account - we collect your email address, either from you directly or from Facebook if you Log-in/Join using your Facebook account.
  2. Once Logged-in, the Account page allows you to enter some personally identifiable information such as your name and it allows you to upload a photo (avatar).
  3. We request information about your (or your family’s) food and cooking preferences on the Profile page.
  4. We allow you to identify where you're located. For your personal locations (home, work, etc), we request only a zip-code for your protection. For locations such as your Gym, Place of Worship or School, we allow you to select by name from a drop-down list of places in or near your zip-code.
  5. Automatically Sent Information: Your computer or mobile device automatically sends information to our website (to all websites) such as your IP address, device type and software versions. Some of this information is stored in log files on our server.
  6. Analytics: We use analytics software which collects information about your use of the website such as which pages you visit, how long you stay on these pages and whether you use certain other site features and functionality.
HOW WE USE PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION
  1. We use your email address to uniquely identify you. We also generate a unique username for you which you can change on the Account page. We may contact you via your email address to forward website-related changes or notifications. We also may forward messages to you from other website users via your email address.
  2. The personally identifiable information on the Account page is used within the site to improve your experience and add functionality. An example would be displaying your avatar and username (but not your real name or email address) for another member when their Search for nearby SHCOOK members includes you in the results (you can opt-out of being displayed in another member’s Search results on the Account page).
  3. Your food/cooking preferences on the Profile page may be displayed when you or other members use our Search feature.
  4. The Locations that you specify on the Profile page are used when other members search for SHCOOKs in the same geographical area.
  5. Analytics: Our analytics software generates reports which we use to find problems with the website, understand how the site is being used and how best to improve the site. The reports that are generated may contain information about your use of the website (including personally identifiable information) or may contain combined (summary) data from all or various groups of site users over various time-periods.
COOKIES AND WEB BEACONS

Cookies are small data items that your web browser may store on your computer/mobile device when it is used to access a website (your web browser sends this data back to the website on future site accesses). We use cookies to identify you from one web page or site access to another in order to keep you Logged-in and to simplify and improve your experience.

Our analytics software also uses cookies to identify you and record your access to web pages and features.

Most web browsers allow you to disable cookies. If you disable cookies, the features of our website that require you to be Logged-in will not function.

Web beacons are invisible HTML components embedded in a web page for the purpose of adding automatic tracking functionality. Our analytics software may use web beacons in the form of javascript or image tags instead of or in addition to cookies to help record your access to web pages and features.

HOW WE SHARE PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION

When other SHCOOK members use the Search feature of our website to find potentially compatible members with whom to share cooking, you may be displayed in their Search results. If you are listed in the Search results, the member would see your SHCOOK username, your avatar (uploaded photo) and other data that you’ve entered including your food/cooking preferences. The member would not see your email address or other personally identifiable information that you’ve entered on the Account page.

We do not have advertisements on our website and we do not sell or distribute your personally identifiable information to third parties except in the following cases:

  1. If the SHCOOK website or business (SHCOOK LLC) is purchased by or merges with another company, we may transfer the website to that company, including members' personally identifiable information, for the purpose of continuation of the online service that the website provides. This Privacy Policy will transfer to the new owner as part of the website and the new owner will respect the policies within.
  2. We may disclose your personally identifiable information to a court or law enforcement if legally required to do so. We may disclose personally identifiable information to protect us from legal action or claims by any SHCOOK member or third party.
YOUR SHARING OF YOUR OWN PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION

Information that you post in messages to other members on this website, in emails, on social networking sites or any other location, online or offline, is not monitored by us and is not protected by this Privacy Policy. We urge you to be careful about publishing personally identifiable information.

HOW WE RESPOND TO "DO NOT TRACK" (DNT) SIGNALS

Some web browsers have a "Do not track" (DNT) setting which allows you to request that your access to web pages on any site not be tracked. If you activate the "DNT" setting, our analytics software will respect such setting and will avoid including information about your page/site accesses in the analytics database and reports. Your page accesses may still be written to a log file on our server.

If you enable the "Do not track" feature in your browser, all other SHCOOK website functionality remains available, including features that use/require personally identifiable information.

HOW WE PROTECT YOUR PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION

We use industry-standard techniques for protecting your data, both when it is transferred over the Internet and when it is stored on our server. While no one can guarantee that data will never be accessed by unauthorized persons, we do everything that we can to protect your data and use of our site.

We urge you to create passwords that are difficult to guess, to otherwise carefully protect your password and to log off of the SHCOOK website when done using it.

OUR LINKS TO EXTERNAL WEBSITES

Our website contains links to other websites. We do not monitor the content on those sites and this Privacy Policy does not apply to any access to or content on those sites. We offer these links as a courtesy/convenience for our members.

YOUR INFORMATION ON THE INTERNET

When you enter data on our website, it is stored on one of our servers which is unlikely to be located in your jurisdiction and may not be located in your country. When you use our website, your data travels over the Internet from your location to that of one of our servers.

We currently make our website available for use by people in the U.S. However, we cannot prevent people anywhere in the world from accessing our website and therefore potentially accessing the data that you have entered on the site.

USE OF OUR WEBSITE BY CHILDREN

Use of our website is available to people who are at least 14 years old. We do not accept personally identifiable information from people under 14 years of age. If you are under 14 years old, do not use the SHCOOK website. If we learn of any personally identifiable information that has been entered by someone younger than 14 years old, we will immediately remove that information.

This is for our protection as well as the protection of all site users/members. If you have any questions, we can be reached via our 'Contact' page or by email (contact@shcook.org).
